I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

how is citi able to give these benefits and amex couldnot
<br />
the same way capital one can make a 1.5% cash back everywhere card
its the VISA signature series which costs store 2.75+% + fee to accept. its visa "alternative" to american express , high fee card with high levels of benefits
Amex offers to convert the card everytime I login.
The next time you log in, look at the offer more closely. They aren't offering to "convert" your card--they're offering (really, asking) you a different, new card. They can't convert your card because they sold the card portfolio to Citi, for $1 billion.
It will be called "Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi" (that's a mouthful).
For those who already have Costco Amex, they will mail out the replacement cards starting in May 2016, but you cannot use it until June 20, 2016.
A lot better benefits:
4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter (Costco Amex is 3%)
3% cash back on restaurant and eligible travel purchases worldwide (Costco Amex is 2%)
2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com (Costco Amex is 1%)
1% cash back on all other purchases
If anyone is curious - Citi will NOT pull credit for existing Costco Amex holders.
So its not going to ding your scores.
Advise please
amex been offering the blue card everytime i login to my costco amex. i wonder is it better to take this offer or open a new card somewhere (thinking bout chase freedom)
is it necessary to keep history with them? only been with amex for 4 years. TIA
Since you have a couple months, keep looking for the best offer. For example; the Amex Blue Cash card has offered a $250-$300 bonus for $500-$1000 spent in the first 3 months.

So going to my local QT or Safeway (where gas is cheaper and closer) will not get the 4%?
Brilliant, Citi, just brilliant.

Sounds like it'll be just standalone gas stations (Shells, Chevrons, Arcos, etc.)

I have the current costco amex. will Amex send me a new card as well as Citi? I don't want two new cards!
Yes. You will be sent a new card with a new card number, expiry date, etc. After June 20th, you might as well cut up your Costco AmEx card because it won't be active anymore.

I'm a little surprised that Costco didn't note that "eligible purchases" excluded most purchases. They used to have a reputation for honesty.
There have been plenty of posts on Slickdeals about AMEX offers on replacement cards. Every AMEX paper statement and online account login has had offers for the last few months that included up to $300 in rebates for signing up for a new card before the Costco changeover.
I picked up one of the new accounts, got the $300 and chose a category for better rewards than what I had with the Costco card. The discounts go right into my balance every month so I don't have to wait for the one statement a year for the Costco rewards.
I won't be dealing with Citi. Like lots of people, I had bad experiences with them. I'll use my own Visa card with a decent rewards program if I go to Costco. That won't be as often, though.

I will get a new AMEX if they offer 300 sign-up. But I got just 100 in the offer.

What do you mean? Excluded from what?
So you're telling me Amex won't be sending me a new card? what will happen to my open line of credit with Amex when I get the new Citi card?

The Costco AmEx card is being 'migrated' into a Citi VISA card. Citi will send you a new card. Your Costco AmEx card will no longer be valid from June 20th.

For the 4% on gas, note that non-qualifying includes "supermarkets, convenience stores"
That's basically every gas station in my area. If your Costco sells gas, you are good. Mine doesn't.
