Hey guys...No Targeting for me this week ...a not so swell run on Sunday and then our world took a hit on Monday when we took the lil guy to the Pedi and got told they think he might have a skull formation disorder that causes the 5 plates in the skull to fuse prematurely causing less room for brain growth, swelling and a bunch of other possible issues..Crying...We took him for the suggested Xray and we havent heard anything back yet...We are trying to be positive, but when they were looking at the screen to make sure they got the pics they needed it just seemed like theywere asking a lot of questions and taking a lot of notes...Happy thoughts and prayers appreciated...Good luck this week getting all those cheapie/free diapers, wipeys and cereal!!hug
Wow, hugs and prayers going out to you.

He won't drink from a regular sippy cup, tried it with juice since he was 8 months old. Only will drink with a straw or from a juice box. So we modify sippy cups to avoid spillage, stick a straw in them and we're lucky!

We haven't been warming since we took him off formula, no way.

Good tip on the big deal, I wish he talked though so he could realize that we're making a big deal. We do Yaa's and high fives (he loves high fives) but we'd love to do more.
Just because he doesn't talk doesn't mean he won't understand that you're making a big deal. DD didn't really start talking until much later than most, it scared me until I found out there are lots of brilliant people who also waited a long time to start talking. So talk to him just like he understands everything you're saying!

My 12 yo DD was 2-1/2 almost 3 before she actually talked!!! She would use mostly motions or noises or small one-word phrases. We were worried but she is a HIGH HONOR ROLL student now and in advanced math!!! Go figure??Confused Each child has their own "timeline".

It's weird though because he's actually done everything else earlier than the normal kid, crawling, walking, etc etc. He babbles all the time, just no concrete words other than mama, dada, baba, no and done (he has to end his meal with done).

Good point on the positive reinforcement. Hard to do that when he's hitting and clawing at me in his fury but as soon as he stops I will.

I could have written your post. DD turns 13 in a month, this last semester she practically never studied, I was worried her grades would drop. Instead she averaged 98 in all her classes, and she's in all advanced placement classes. Yes, go figure is my answer, too.

Well, don't worry, he might just be as smart as MamaRo's & my DD's! hug

My DD scooted at 8 weeks, was clearly moving across the floor around 3 mos and by 9 mos was walking. I think that's what made her delayed talking pretty scary for us.

Oh, and by the way, DH and I agree - she's more than made up for that delayed talking over the years! laugh out loud

I have 3 girls that can recite nursery rhymes when they were 1 1/2 to 2 yrs old. Then, the little guy, my 4th, started saying "papa" at 8 months. We thought "yeah, he's earlier than his sis". Nope, that was the 1st and last word for a long time. The whole time, he understood everything we tell him and can follow directions accurately.

At 3, he was still doing baby talk and we had to enroll him a state-funded early childhood class (preschool). He's almost 4 now, can talk in sentences, but still pick and choose what he wants to learn.

Like everyone said, kids will learn at their own pace and you can't put expectations on their age.

Has he had ear infections? We got DS ear tubes at 12 months, and he took off talking like crazy!

My oldest could also recite whole nursery rhymes and sing whole songs when she was about 18 months old. She is in highschool now, and while she does fine, she is definitely no genius. Again, she is a smart girl, but not taking any AP classes or anything. My point is , kids usually level out.
My 6 year old, however, didn't talk until he was around 2. I am a Kindergarten teacher and this totally freaked me out. I had a speech/language person come out and test him and he qualified for services because he DID have a language delay. He started talking soon after that (not necessarily because of the services, it was just his time!) He went to Kindergarten last year and ended up being one of the few readers in his class at the end of the year. So again..... usually kids level out as far as learning goes. Try to keep your head up doublesided. It is hard, I know! Also, I 'm sure you've already been told, but lots of times boys talk later than girls.

Thanks to all for the kind words. I think I'd rather have him talk late than potty train late, that's my new philosophy. So even if he can't talk at 2, if I can show him how to point the winkie at the cheerios, we'll all be ok

stormy-DH is coming with me. No way I'd do that one alone

ok ladies i am posting this on here because i know someone on here has some advice..

I have been a sah mom now for about two weeks, and I am having a hard time adjusting. My DD is 6, and besides being sassy, not really a problem.

Any advice on how to make the change easier... I have worked from home the last 2 years, and used to being at home, but this is a whole new thing. I didnt think I would have as hard as time with it as I am.. Any advice is appreciated.
