Whey protein, protein shakes, pre-workout, and other work out supplements advice

3,749 340 August 16, 2016 at 08:56 PM
Been going to the gym lately. Someone suggested I need to take whey and preworkout stuff. I have no idea what I'm getting into.

The 3 things that interest me the most are protein for after work out, protein for shakes during the day to either curb hunger or replace a meal, and preworkout. For the preworkout I am looking for something that is caffeine free as I work out in the evening and go to bed within 3 hours. I don't want to have caffeine keeping me awake.

Or you could just eat a balanced diet and watch your body do wonders.

These protein shakes come with a lot of side effects in the future. Just stick to your exercise and eat small meals after every 3 hours. Helps regenerate your body energy and muscles. Drink lots of water and avoid processed foods. You will not need all the supplements. All supplement contents can be found in real food.

Whey nutrient timing can make a slight difference, but it's not really big enough to worry about in great detail. I drink whey around when I work out, but having it earlier or later in the day works as well, since the protein stays in your system and is metabolized over time.

Dangers of whey are not supported on healthy people. As long as you don't have kidney damage or have some other reason you cannot digest protein effectively, whey is as safe as drinking milk. See examine.com's page on whey protein: http://examine.com/supplements/Whey+Protein/

Examine.com is a great website that analyzes scientific studies of various supplements and translates findings into terms that non-PhDs can understand.

Avoiding caffeine that close to bed sounds like a good idea, but I'm not too familiar with the effectiveness of caffeine-free preworkout. They usually contain other types of stimulants, so avoiding them altogether may be necessary to sleep well. Finding samples to try out might be the best bet.

Preworkout will probably keep you awake if you go to bed soon after a workout. If you dont have trouble with energy and intensity when you workout, I would skip it. However, you can go to GNC and they will give you a free sample or two to try though.

As for protein, I personally prefer something with no sugar like Isopure. It also has 50g protein per serving. But I am usually trying to shed fat while building muscle. The argument could be made that you want the sugar after your workout, so it may not be as important to you for something with no sugar.

Preworkout works because it jacks you up...makes your heart want to explode and makes you super hyper and awake. Sure...you're going to push more weight and do more reps.

Whey and all the other stuff is pretty much trash. Creatine does work with recovery...one of the few things that actually does something.

"Someone suggested" tells me that you have done little to no research on your own to see why or what supplements you should take based on your goals. And if "going to gym lately" is just a summer phase, then you might not want to invest in any supps. Anyhoo this link should get you in right direction: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store...-plan.html

I. Have looked since they suggested it. I've read so many opinions in what supplements to get, each site sa s different. And what scares me is there seems to be no scientific answer most if these sites seems to be owned by a business so of course they're going to try to sell.
