the papers with Qs on sunday are $1.75 here. so i guess you just gotta make sure the Qs will be worth the money and then some, huh?
how much are your papers?

We have home delivery of one local paper for $10 a month, and on Saturday I buy the early edition WA Post ($1.50). I check the coupons for anything good and decide if I want more papers. With the P&G insert this week, I bought what I could find (5 papers total). My free local paper is delivered in the mail on Fridays and they usually have the coupon inserts as well. Smilie

No Target for me today, took the little man to get his bloodwork done, they took 4 tubes, he was such a good boy. Did make 2 Kmart runs, nothing too exciting although extra 20% off toys, and I only bought 1!

I got a bunch of envies from Bricks today and from sd'rs and an order of scrapbook supplies. I litterally had like 20 envelopes to open, it was sweet!
i've signed up to receive a bunch of those bricks and i never end up getting them. the only 1 i've ever received was the one for the mail in rebate on the shout.

You people that can get so many inserts are lucky! I wish I could find some way to get that many inserts. Every lead/source I have tried has ended up a dead end.
Quote from Jen2882 :
Yea, I'm in awe at the inserts people get as well. Dh would kill me if I spent that kind of money on newspapers....he just doesn't get it lol.
i wish i had a free hookup for papers, i've looked into it as well. i always have to either buy them or order from clipper services. what i do depends on how many inserts/ good coupons are available that week. i don't like buying papers when only 1 insert is in them, because it's the least cost effective. (though i sometimes make exception for p&g because the coupons tend to go FAST online for outrageous prices)

if the coupons are only so so, i'll only get 5 - 10 papers. if they're cruddy, i'll only get the 1 i have home delivered. if they are really good or have 3 inserts i'll get up to 15 - 20 papers.

as for buying my newspapers -
i've figured out that to get reliable sources i have to buy my papers INSIDE stores and end up paying taxes on them. if i don't, and just get them out of the news coinstand thing a jiggers - either all the papers are NOT the sunday paper (old, leftovers from friday and saturday) or someone's stripped every last coupon out of them and i have no recourse. not to mention they only stock 5 - 8 papers in each l.a. times and i'd end up driving all over to get enough (thereby wasting gas).

anyhow, after getting shafted on papers from the newsstands a couple times - i now pay the extra $.11 per paper to buy inside the grocery store to guarantee i actually get what i have to pay for. i also sort out the inserts while i'm still there in the store. if a paper is shorted coupons i'll put it right back and get one that's not shorted. (got tired of driving back after sorting them out at home, and they conveniently have tables set up inside with air conditioning Stick Out Tongue)
i've bought enough papers at this store now for the employees to know what i'm about as i'm sitting there sorting through my stuff. and i've never had an issue getting a new paper when one's been shorted inserts - though i do tell them first the paper's been stripped and they usually keep it behind the counter (i'm sure they probably sell it when the others run out and the buyer doesn't care about getting coupons). on average i find that about 1:20 papers is short a single insert, and 1:40 is shorted ALL the inserts. those slackers at the news office!! shake head

i do like buying my inserts from dede as well. however, sometimes the coupons in my area are better - or her inserts have too many coupons i can't use (due to brand or store that aren't available here). i also don't like how sometimes i'm restricted to only 10 of the same inserts when there's nothing else i want to buy to help make that $5 shipping charge worthwhile. but, i love her when there is no restriction and the coupons are good and i can order at least 20 inserts or squeeze 45 - 50 varying inserts into my shipment. Stick Out Tongue

feebay - surprisingly it is possible to get cheap coupons there. lately i've been a big fan of "BIN" and sellers who do combined shipping since it seems a large part of the costs of ebay coupons come from the shipping charges. seriously - who wants to pay $1 for 10 coupons and then pay another $.99 to ship them? shake head

earlier today i bought 8 lots of coupons from a seller and only paid $1 shipping for 95 coupons.
i only got 10 - 20 of each different coupon (most only 10), so no worries - ALL will be getting used. and my after-coupon prices on these items will be very low after Safeway summer savings promo kicks in since these are all $1 face value coupons. Wink
i'm really happy with these kinds of clipper savings. i always add stuff to my cart at CC and then 'shop around' at other sites for better prices. lol bounce

for now.. it's not too bad. sometimes i spend $0, sometimes i spend $30. this week i've spent $28 what with p&g coupons, and purchasing coupons for safeway promo. but it usually averages out to about $15/ week, and i don't pay for ANYTHING i buy with those coupons.
i used to limit our spending to $300 for groceries, etc. now i spend $60 - $75 a month on papers/ clipper services to bring home several hundreds of dollars of food, toiletries and other stuff (for FREE). so.. even in most expensive months only spend $75 where we used to spend $300 - a savings of $225, or 75%! (and we get more stuff for our $75 than we ever did with $300 Stick Out Tongue)
of course this is not as good as it could be if i was able to get our coupons for free, but still very very good!!

dh doesn't like me spending money on coupons and papers (neither do i!), but he lets me do it anyway because he knows buying the papers is still much much cheaper than NOT getting them and paying full price for all our crap and not having as much. Stick Out Tongue
but believe me, the day i figure out a way to get free inserts around here i'll definitely be jumping for joy. i hate hate hate paying for my coupons as much as anyone else! vomit

but.. we work with what we got, and i thinking we're working it pretty good so far. bounce

what i consider 'good' from this weeks p&g:
  • always bogo
  • herbal essence $3/2 (i like this kind and there seems to always be a tq to combine)
  • olay ribbons $2 (used these at cvs to get 7 of the 18oz, and the $1 coupon on a face cloth for a 'loss' of only about $9 ecb.. so $1.12 each item - not bad for something i've been wanting to try and i didn't actually pay for since i used ecb's Stick Out Tongue)
  • olay face $1 (i normally use this one to get the $1.02 trial size at target = dirt cheap coupon 'fillers' Stick Out Tongue)
  • gillette 2in1 body wash $1 (wags has the trial ones of these for $.99. buy 1 less than you have coupons for and it'll be beepless. i have 10 coupons, so will buy 11 = b1g10. Big Grin)
  • h&s $3/2 (some stores have the ocean lift down to $1.xx = possible overage!)
what i consider 'decent' (may or may not use depending what sales come up if any):
  • clairol hair color $2
  • aussie $2/2
  • pantene $2
  • infusium $3
  • tag $1
  • gillette deodorant $1
  • mach3 disposable $2
  • glide floss $1 (need to check price on this one)
  • covergirl free eye enhancers wyb lashblast
  • swiffer $1, $3
what i consider 'could be better but will make do with overages from other stuff' laugh out loud :
  • pamper diapers $1
  • pamper splashers $1.50
  • pamper wipes $.50
  • pamper underjams $2
the $.25 for charmin, tide, dawn and such i tend to use at cvs, where i very rarely get overage so every little bit helps to keep that oop as low as possible. they do seem puny, but one time i used 6 - 8 of them in the same transaction for a savings of $1.50 - $2 just in $.25 coupons. those babies do add up and i have found that cvs is the best place to use them. nod

(and keep in mind, these are all just 'kosher' deals here)

Is my memory faulty or did most of the inserts years ago had perforations so you can tear out the Qs easier? Wishing for this to come back as I'm cutting out my P&G Qs...
this is going to date me but yes, i remember them being perforated. but they also used to print them on heavier stock paper. but i also recall just using scissors after awhile b/c it was easier to clip out the ones you wanted. back then my mom didn't keep all the coupons.

then a few yrs ago they got cheaper on the ink too. coupons used to look much, much nicer. i think only p&g still prints like that.

I just had to share this because I thought it was funny.

Dh was looking at the Target ad yesterday and turned to my older son and said "I guess we can expect to see a lot of this Sobe and Aquafina around here this week because there's a gift card offer on it at Target." laugh out loud I only brought home 30 bottles today. Big Grin I can't find anymore coupons. Frown

oh how i wish. wags is way over on the other side of town. i'm not sure how much they charge since i always buy my papers before trekking over there, but their rack only has maybe 8 papers. still.. will have to take a closer look when i'm there next week. if they do only charge $.75 for sunday papers w/ coupons, could definitely be worth the drive to save 50% of my current paper expense and i'm sure i might be able to get enough between the 2 wags. Big Grin
i'll just need to start clipping coupons for immediate use out in my car or something Stick Out Tongue

and go figure.. there's 2 wags over there and this side of town has 0. what the heck? Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) anyway..

Check out 99 Only and other dollar stores such King Dollar [a Houston "dollar" store that recently increased their prices to $1.09 Smilie ] They usually sell the Early Sunday edition of The Houston Chronicle at the store's stated price [i.e. 99/$1.09]
