That is what I do! Big Grin I'm a SAHM since my kids are little (6 1/2 and 3) and can't see going back to work until they're at least both in school full time. Then, I'll work around their school schedule. I actually make more money selling my stockpile than I would working PT. DH shleps my stuff all over and is so proud of my money making hobby. Big Grin

ANOTHER story from my garage sale today:

I had one young lady who wanted to know if I would give her the diapers for $3 rather than $5 if she buys all of them. I told her (nicely) that I don't haggle and that everything was well below retail. She was really ticked that I turned her down (I think more embarrassed than anything) so she scoffed off to her husband who had an armload full of razors, shampoo etc. and told her DH "come on-- and something like not needing anything here." wave So, I'm in the baby section of Target today with my back to the main aisle and I hear a scooter come around the corner behind me. It's the SAME LADY from my garage sale!! I walk a little further down the aisle in front of the Huggies shmuffling through my coupons so I can hear what she is saying (Yea, I was eavesdropping. Shoot me. Big Grin ) Her husband said, "See! I knew $5 was a good deal!!" HA!! It was all I could do not to crack UP! I made a point to wait until they left the aisle--- with an empty shopping cart. Am I bad or what?? Big Grin I wonder if she'll make her way over to my next sale dying to pay $5 for a pk of diapers?
So do you think the lady recognized you if you recognized her or did she even see you? laugh out loud

I have quite the stockpile to and need to yard sale it, and I am wondering if people are going to try to talk down all the prices. So how much do you price your small shampoo and conditioners (Pantene, H&S, Vive etc..)? How much do you price a tube of toothpaste? Did you have any of the purse razors sets from Target (The green Venus sets), and how much did you price these at. I have quite a few of these, and think they are very nice to sell to cheaply.

Do you stick with your prices on all items, or do you price some things higher and are willing to go down sometimes? Do you have a lot of people ask you to go down? I really don't want to deal with that, as I find people often do this with a regular type garage sale with used items. I agree I would be pricing the stuff far below retail, and really don't want to haggle like you say. I also agree I don't need to get rid of it that bad to give it away, as I can just give it to family members or donate it to those less fortunate. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks so much!

She didn't see me. In fact, I walked right by her in another aisle and she didn't even notice me. I had my hair down, different clothes, no sunglasses etc.

I priced my Venus razor gift set thing for $5 and sold all 6. I could have sold more but I ran out. Usually I have cute, colorful signs made in MS Publisher that say "Everything is priced well below retail. Please no haggling. Thanks!" When I have those out, it does the trick. Today, I didn't have my signs out (ran out of time) and had maybe 4 people ask. I politely turned them down and most of them were OK with it.

My Pert, H&S, and Infusium sells very well at $1.50. I sold all of my HE at $1 and some Pantene at $1. The Vive didn't move. I had it priced at $1. I have sold the HE at $1.50 before and it still does well. We're new to this area so I wanted to test the waters with some of the stuff.

PM me if you have any questions! Big Grin

Sorry more questions. Does anyone ever sell their excess pet food (Goodlife, Purina, Fancy Feast etc...) or do they just donate it to animal shelters. If they sell it, how much for a 3.5 lb bag of each kind? I don't want to just give this away, as I would rather see a shelter get it for the poor animals.

Also did anyone sell their Solo plates? The colored ones that retail for $2.89, and we had $2 coupons for. How much would you ask for these?

I have soooo many different items, I just don't know where to start. I figure everything in my closet is enough for my family, and everything downstairs needs to find a new home. What is the general price range to mark things down? 50%, 75%? I know I guess a lot depends on what it is.

Excellent idea with the signs, and yes I probably will PM you with some questions. Thanks so much! I don't want to clog up the thread so much. I guess I better head to Walmart now my husband wants a soda, and we finally run out. Thanks again for your help!

I was feeding a stray the Goodlife and Purina, but he hasn't been around for a while. I was actually completely out of Purina, and Goodlife feeding this stray, but then he didn't come back and my stash grew again. I think I kept hoping he would come back, and I am so sad I am not seeing him. I kept buying food hoping he would come back eventually. I wish I would have made him my own, when I had the chance, but I think he wouldn't have liked being an indoor cat like the others. I don't have any dog food extra, just cat food. I think I will need to donate it, if I don't sell it, as I don't want any mice in the house. I'm not sure where in my area would be a good place to donate, I will have to research this.

I had a sale in June and did very well. Only 1 or 2 people tried to talk me down. Everyone else just scarfed up the great deals. Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought people would be all over the shampoos and toothpastes like they were...made 600.00 off of a small stockpile, compared to how long some have been doing it.

DH's much younger cousin has been having a hard time - her DH was deployed to Iraq, leaving her with their newborn son. She has had a terrible time with kidney stones, etc making it impossible for her to work, so times are tight. DD and I have been having great fun playing "ding dong ditch" leaving bags of diapers, wipes, and toiletries on her doorstep. It's nice to be able to help out, and teaches my daughter important life lessons. Smilie

And thank you for your thoughts and prayers - I'm a firm believer in the fact that there's a plan for all of us...we just have to trust that this is a change for the better!
That is a wonderful that you do that!!!!! I love it!!!!

Maybe I will try tomorrow laugh out loud I did have 5 runs in the last 3 days (4 different stores) with 4 GREAT runs and 1 ok run laugh out loud I had to do some immediate returns so it made that run good. I guess that is the risk you take when trying a new store Smilie

laugh out loud Serves her right. I had a guy do the same thing w/Pampers wipes & they were selling fast @ $3 a pack. I wouldn't budge on price either. WTH would I sell him all I had left for half of what I was asking when I had no troubles selling them for the price I had listed. Fine go and pay full price then!

The no haggle signs are a good idea. We had a few people asking but not to many. DH just told them it was already a great deal @ at least 50% off so his wife would not budge, she would rather keep it and use it go lower or give it away. He also told a few persisitant people that after the sale we might just go ahead and return it and we would get twice what we were selling it for back.

We did very well today sticking with right about 50% off retail on everything with stockpile stuff. We also sold a washer, box trailer, and misc tools & household we made $1,500.00 woot DH also sold my 75% off gazebo, paid $75 but sold it for $150.00. Frown I kinda wanted to keep it even though we couldn't decide where to put it, I think he just didn't want to set it up.

Gypsylady and others ... Search SD for "garage sale discussion". There is a great thread here that was very helpful to me. Sorry I can't link it as I'm using my phone to read and post!

Thanks for all the tech help. I THINK I MAY have gotten rid of at least most of the problems since I have been online for about 15 minutes with no redirects (fingers crossed). Does anyone know anything about Ewido? Microsoft remotely ran this one and it pulled so much spyware off my pc EEK! I'm just wondering what I should install now as far as a paid antivirus/spyware? Obviously Mcafee wasn't working for me Mad

Someone listed like four free programs for you to use. Try those first, why pay for something when you can get it free?

I personally know my kiddo; ds17 uses some of those programs on my pc. One of them blocks me from printing coupons until I accept that program. Otherwise all is good.
