Seriously, we don't have a separate freezer, but even just our little freezer attached to the fridge, I would die if I lost everything in there.

It is, of course, better that you didn't get sick. I hear food poisoning is no fun. Embarrassment
Yeah, DH said when he was a teenager, and his dad was overseas (Army), their big freezer was in a separate store room off the house. They didn't go out there but about once a week, and by the time they went out and found it, all the meat had gone bad and smelled nasty.

He said they were getting sick just trying to get rid of the meat to clean out the freezer. Lucky for him, a nice neighbor man came and dug a deep hole on the back end of their property, and buried it. But he said he'll never forget how bad it was.

I thought about keeping a few of the cuts of meat that were still pretty cool/cold, but decided it wasn't worth food poisoning.

I still feel like I'm going to be sick over the whole thing though.

That happened to us once. It's a horrible feeling. My freezer is full and I am just hoping we don't get any big storms this year that knock power out for days...

hope everyone has a good evening, I'm off to bedwave

I am in a state of total shock right now. I know if I'd just cry I would feel better, but I am just too shocked.

I know some of you will understand my angst. This afternoon, DH discovered the door to our upright freezer in the garage slightly open. Last night, DD put a few things in it for me and I guess she didn't close the door good. End result? Everything in it was ruined except two cheesecakes and a pecan pie.

I almost had a breakdown, it was FULL to the gills with stuff I've gotten through great deals, including tons of meat. DH says it could have been worse, had we not noticed when we did, the meat could have been so spoiled when it was found so as to make us sick just to clean it out. And he cleaned the coils and checked it, we're hopefully that running full blast trying to cool a whole garage didn't totally ruin the freezer.

So, if you see any great deals on frozen foods, please pass them my way.
oh my tthat's horrible....would filing a home owners even be worth it?

Sorry to hear this. Is your loss big enough to turn into your home owners insurance?

We don't eat much meat around here, so there is not a huge amount in our deep freeze. However, all the other frozens added up is a pretty huge amount. We have a lot of expensive frozen fishes as well.

Hi - sorry for your loss - I think I have food poisoning right now and no, it's no fun at all. I also know someone who was hospitalized earlier this summer for almost 6 weeks with food poisoning from Sushi - she is still unable to swallow normally and could take up to two years to fully recover - sad, sad, sad. For you though, maybe a happier ending - you didn't get food poisoning - Yeah - but you may also be able to file an insurance claim with a very low, if any, deductible. See my PM. Good luck to you.

Oh man, isn't that just the worst? Had my DGD do the same to me a few years back....fortunately some of the meat that was packed in tight wasn't thawed yet and I saved a very little, but then was too scared to eat it! Now I'm so paranoid about it that I go out and check it every night before I go to bed.......believe me, I feel your painhug .

hug - that is horrible! I totally understand! We had a storm hit our house a couple years back and it took out our power for a week. We lost everything in our fridge and freezer. It was just after xmas and relatives had sent us a care package of Graters Ice Cream and Montgomery Inn ribs (If you are from the Cincy area - you can relate). We hadn't even had a chance to break into them yet when the storm hit - so sad!

I haven't had a chance to try out any new Qs yet, but am looking forward to doing small runs this week at different stores (Safeway, Kmart, Target, etc).

Oh, and if anyone is interested in trading for free bread Qs, I have quite a few and won't be using them...

I don't know of a 10% off code (although I think there are some for sale on ebay) but I got this code for $5 off $50 in a recent email

Oh and I am interested in a few free bread q's - we didn't get any here - was just coming here to post to see if I could trade someone! Will pm you!!!
