[YMMV] - Costco Car Rental Codes - Costco Memership Not Required

I am creating this thread only because I posted this information in other threads and found out that not many people realize you can use costco codes ( which tend to net out lower rates quite a few times) without an active costco memership.
I am not saying this always gives a lower rate , just more often than not , so worth trying before you book elsewhere.

YMMV because some people have reported being asked for a costco card at the rental location. So I would keep a backup fully refundable rental just in case. FWIW , I have not been asked for my costco card over about 2 years at airport and local locations with Enterprise , Avis and Budget. Have not rented with alamo through costco yet.

Here is how I do this
  1. Goto https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars. Codes for Enterprise , Avis , BUdget and Alamo are available on that page
  2. Click on " Low Price Finder" to find the best option for your location and dates .
  3. Once you know which Car Rental Agency you are going with , goto their website and use the codes from Step 1 above on the Car Rental Website. You maybe asked for costco information but that field is optional. You can even put an inactive / invalid costco membership number. I have never been asked for a Costco ID at the rental location.
  4. Do not try to book through costco website as that would need you to put costco membership information.

I have found that is always the case. There is really no reason why you need to put thru Alamo direct. All the same benefits apply thru Costco including online Alamao Check-in.

Thanks, Yes, I was able to do the online check-in a few weeks ago and already traveled and had no issue. Didn't even need my Costco card.

Thanks. One last question on the skip the counter. Does the additional driver need to be with you when you pick up? Asking since we are using the car to drive to FL and won't have the additional driver w/ me at pickup. We are picking up in our hometown. Thanks.

Short answer in my experience, no. I added an additional driver at online check-in. Its a very tiny box you have to check during online check-in and is easy to miss. All you need is the additional driver's license no.


When I went to the garage, they didn't look at my reservation until I was at the gate to drive out.

I use the costco discount in Vegas every 3 months or so and I have never been asked yet, I also try to use the kiosk and just check-in and walk to the car.

So it won't let me continue without a Costco membership number and id. I fully intend to purchase one if it saves me some big bucks for my upcoming Germany rental, but I need to make the reservation first so I can call the retanl company andd see how much it will cost to upgrade to automatic transmission. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can put in those fields?

Had already booked one through southwest and it was running almost $100 more even though I am a rewards member with them Annoyed lol


I didn't see a place on Alamo's website to add a coupon code but by going through the first link and using my costco membership number I did save that "almost $100" amount..so tyvm. Thumbsup

When booking directly on Budget's site without providing Costco membership number. was asked for it (not Costco membership card) at a non-airport Budget location in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
When I book through the Costco Travel website (requires login), I am not asked for anything.
