How does Newegg deal with USPS lost packages?

4,570 938 October 18, 2016 at 12:24 PM Newegg
Okay, ordered something from newegg, and they have their one day shipping because I live close to Newegg's shipping center. According to USPS, it was delivered to me but I checked my cameras and USPS didn't make any attempts to deliver to me. Probably USPS screwed up mailed to the wrong address. Called newegg for a product replacement. What are the chances that I will get my money or get the item re-mailed to me? Not that pissed off, but it was for 2 - $5 8 port 10/100 switches that I was going to use for rebate anyways...

It's between them and USPS. Most companies will reship or rebate the $$ while they figure out between them and the shipping co what happened. (I used to live in a condo where stuff was misdelivered/stolen all the time)

They'll refund you. They don't have much recourse, you'd easily win a dispute via your CC.

Chances are though, FedEx will magically show up with your package in a day or two. I've seen these assholes do this. One time my mother stayed home for her package and the dude didn't even ring the doorbell. He pulled up, stopped for a minute, and drove off. The second day during the next attempt, didn't even drive down my street. The FedEx office tried to lie to me and I asked where I should send my security footage to show that they're full of shit. The sent a van out that night to redeliver.

It's not the late that bothers me, it's the lying about something being "delivered". I'm never nervous when something just isn't delivered yet. It'll just come in the next day or two, usually not a big deal. But marking something delivered that you didn't deliver is infuriating.

About 10 years ago I ordered a power supply. It showed delivered but wasn't. I called Fedex, was told to wait, so I emailed Newegg too. Fedex called back and found out they left it at my Uncle's place, 40 miles away. Same last name, different first name, completely different address, but same village/zipcode. Driver loading the truck saw the last name and didn't know two households in the area had the same last name, never bothered to look at the address. Anyway, told Fedex and emailed Newegg saying it was "ok". Next day, Fedex had picked up and redelivered the power supply. Day after that, got "another" one from Newegg.... I emailed Newegg, stating I had already said it was "settled", they said not to worry about it. So I ended up with a free one. Cheap ~$20 power supply I guess for the inconvenience.

Another time they asked if they could leave it as the post office since they couldn't find my place. That's 30 miles away. Had I not gotten back to them in time, it would have been delivered there. Another time they left a package balancing on top of my mailbox at the end of my driveway (about 1/4 mile). And another time they delivered to a place next to the highway about 1.5 miles away (not an issue, they just did it). Both of those due to road conditions and they notified me. There aren't any issues with crime/stealing in this area, so that happens.

Couple months ago, UPS changed their procedures, drivers don't load their own trucks now. So he stopped in, but no package in his truck. He asked if I would help look through the truck with him, so I dug through the back of a UPS truck..., not there. That arrived next day.

I'm not surprised a package says delivered when it isn't, errors happen all the time, could be theft, etc. I haven't had these types of issues with USPS, helps when they know every person on the route.

I had this issue with NewEgg and UPS ~10 years ago. I had ordered a computer case and UPS said it was delivered to my porch - but it wasn't. UPS just kept insisting that they delivered it to my home. NewEgg told me they would "look into it," but implied that they believed I was lying and, consequently, would not be replacing the product. Three days later I was walking my dog down to the cul-de-sac on our street and spotted a large box on the porch of an unoccupied house (bank repo). Lo and behold it was my package. I never did hear from NewEgg or UPS again, which suggests I would had to have filed a CC dispute if I wanted a refund.

I am surprised, because that is not an error that should happen. What you're describing is different from what I experienced. You are describing a delivery to an incorrect address. What happened to me is a driver CHOSE not to attempt delivery and then marked the package as delivered.

This reminds me of how I ordered a phone case, it was shipped via Fedex with signature required... I was on a different side of town running errands and it read signed by my first initial and last name on the tracking number, when I wasn't even there to sign it, so I know that was a lie. Frown The package was just left at the door.

We never get deliveries from Fedex, anything sent by Fedex is delivered by the USPS. The most annoying part is when the package reaches the USPS sorting office two towns away from us, they mark the package as 'delivered' so their on time delivery doesn't take a hit. Then it's usually two days later before the USPS actually delivers the item! Thankfully, most of our stuff arrives via UPS.
