Okay, I (karmalaw) have am editing the wiki to add the basic information that should, IMO, be provided by an OP in any SYW points deal:

1) You only earn points for the amount spent OOP. If you pay with points you won't earn new points on that amount. If you use a store coupon to discount the price paid, you will only earn points based upon what was paid OOP (paying with a gift card does count as OOP). Usage of Points, Surprise Points, and Store Coupons are discounts, you only earn points after all discounts are applied.

2). If you purchase in store, points are awarded immediately (unless the terms of the promotion define a later date). If you purchase online points are only awarded at time of shipment or when the order is picked up (if you have arranged for store pickup).

3) Pay attention to any points earning cap for a particular promotion. If there is a cap and you exceed it with online orders before they are shipped or ready for pickup, it will appear as if you are earning full points for every order. However, you will only earn the cap and rest of the purchases won't earn the points. You haven't found a clever way around the system, you've found a clever way to spend time in the refund line.

4) Points earned for various promotions have whatever expiration date is programmed for the promotion. Some promotions have short expiration periods, some have much longer ones. You can ALWAYS check the expiration date of your points at the Shop Your Way website by clicking on your points in the upper right of the home screen. The system does automatically use the points expiring soonest when you apply points to a purchase. So if you have 10,000 points expiring in 10 days, but 100,000 points total, you only need to use the 10k within 10 days.

5) Check your SYW coupons (under Rewards at the SYW website) before making a purchase to see if you have any coupons that will apply to give you more points for a transaction.

6) Points are redeemable for all merchandise (not gift cards or service plans) sold by Sears, Kmart or Land's End. If you are ordering online, pay attention to the "seller" -- The Sears and Kmart websites are programmed atrociously and will show you MANY products not sold by either store -- instead sold by their "marketplace" sellers.
