Factory-Seconds are shoes that contain slight blemishes that don't allow them to be sold as First-Quality shoes at Allen Edmonds Retail stores, on AllenEdmonds.com or through their partner retailers. Close to 90% of the imperfections are due to slight cosmetic blemishes such as scratches, nicks, leather imperfections or wrinkles. ~ persian_mafia
This is my first foray into factory 2nds. I've been wanting a pair of strand for several years and couldn't get one under 249$ so I grabbed a pair today for $229.
I've bought two pairs of 2nds from AE in the past and been VERY happy with them. They came without a noticeable flaw and they wear like a dream 4 or 5 years later -- just like a quality pair of leather shoes should.
Just received an email advertising a Flash Sale on Allen Edmonds Factory Seconds. It runs from today Jan 12 until Jan 17. Prices range from $67 to $449 depending on the model. That looks to be anywhere from a 25-50% savings. The largest selection of the inventory seems to be around $197.

I've worn several pairs of Seconds, and I've never been able to easily find the defect.
Just checked the stock, and they seem to have tons of inventory.
72 results for just my size - 10.5 EEE.
Of course, YMMV. You may be out of luck if you don't have Fred Flinstone feet like me... but it's worth a look if you're into Allen Edmonds like I am. Good luck!
I jumped into this. It's my first pair of Factory Seconds as well, but I read that people often can't find the flaw.
I ordered a couple pair of Higgins Mill boots two days ago (taking advantage of the $100 off regular priced boots), but they didn't have my size. So I ordered half a size smaller and half a size larger. It looks like my size is available in Factory Seconds, so I ordered (what I think is) my correct size just now for $70 less.
I am super tempted but has anyone received one that was just not worth it? The scratches were very noticeable?
I've never gotten one with anything worse than a small scuff, the kind that gets mostly covered up by a good polish and that you'd probably get within a few weeks of wear anyway.

I absolutely have and kept them anyways since my LaSalles were $120 per pair a few years back. laces don't line up shoe to shoe in vertical height top to bottom or angle - one is straight across and one is angled. You'd have to be looking for it. Other two pairs have a few imperfections that are noticeable but I don't work in banking so don't care. You definitely can get more heavily flawed pairs than others. My pair of chilis is the "worst" of the 3 but again for $120, I'm not complaining. You can always order 2 if you're that concerned and ship one back for $10. Honestly, if they were $200 like today's deals, they would have all been returned.
YMMV on seconds. I've bought plenty of seconds from AE and I've gotten shoes that were unacceptable to me (excessive wrinkle in leather, loose leather, etc.) and some which have been fine.
Good deals on 2nds. They had these prices around Black Friday and run it about 3-4 times a year. I recently bought some brown Fifth Ave 2nds that I can't tell what blemish they might have. I also have merlot Park Ave 2nds where the captoe stitching on one foot doesn't mirror the other well but nobody can tell unless you hold them side by side and mention it.
I wish they'd bring back bourbon in more styles. Walnut is too light in color for me. I heard they're working on a medium brown leather that's similar to bourbon, so I'll just have to wait.

I'll see which fits best and return the rest.
