not sure why this isnt more popular. was going to wait on posting till i bought one haha.

I owned the Seiki SE42UM and after installing firmware, it was a beautiful display for both gaming and wonderful 4k video editing for almost a year. I got crazy and bought 2 more 4k tvs on Black Friday this year and was so unimpressed i actually ended up getting rid of them all. one being the 55 inch TCL, which is absolutely gorgeous for the money, possibly even more so than the seiki, but as a PC monitor, the pixel density of the 42 inch is considerably higher, resulting in a much smoother desktop experience.

This is the smart tv version of the seiki that is available, and while id render the apps useless, this is the lowest ive seen any of these displays priced at.

in for 1.
Of course he has! When he says something like "1000x better" he has obviously done a scientific review. How else could be be so specific? I was thinking maybe the Samsung would be only 3x better, since that's how much more it costs.
Not sure why you're being down voted for asking a question. I wouldn't recommend this for PS4 because one of the features they really talk about is 4k with HDR. HDR is high dynamic range and basically means the colors will be a lot more defined, from the brightest to the darkest. So it would be best to grab one with HDR. But note that you won't find it in this price range though.

Anyone with the Haier (or similar) that's been happy with the purchase? My expectations aren't high, but I can't imagine it'd be any worse than my 10 year old Philips.

I can't seem to find an official spec sheet, but I can only assume it doesn't have HDR.

I bought a 55inch 4k Haier picture quality is better than I thought it would be, a lot of reviews said sound quality was bad but I've been very happy with my buy

I hesitate to even mention it because it was so long ago, but the Haier HL40XSL2 I bought for my parents in 2010 I was not happy with, but it has lasted a while... still being used today. It has really bad backlight issues (bleed, uniformity) contributing to poor black levels, and it took a lot of tweaking for the color to look natural. It also had some bugginess with some HDMI devices; frequent brief audio drops from the Nexus Player (where other sets tested with the same unit did not,) etc. Again, it's a 2010 model I'm talking about, so they may have improved things since then.

I also bought a Seiki SE40FH03 during a $170 black friday sale on amazon in 2013 and thought it was pretty crappy. I can't remember any specific complaints about that one, I got rid of it right away.

What that means is it can install Haier approved apps to stream movies, music, etc but it doesn't have a web browser to say check slickdeals.nets's forum.

Even without HDR this is a killer price for a 4k. Great find OP.

I have a 55inch Haier and the image quality it's amazing for the price. It does have some bleeding but overall it's a good 4k tv
