YMMV - Home Depot Milwaukee 46" 8 Drawer Tool Chest Topper - $25

I know I will get flamed for being such a YMMV, but I was in to pick something up last night and I have been watching this chest topper [homedepot.com] drop in price (Last I knew was $125) from what I believe was Black Friday sales. Apparently there were a lot of extra tops leftover and they have been hanging around 125-175. When I was picking up my items last night, I turned around to see 3 boxes behind and the stickers said Was $50, Now $25. A guy was on his phone talking to someone and ended up buying 2, and I got the final one, but it does appear to have some stock around via the pickup at other stores.

You can easily buy the 46" base for it, or fashion a stand/shelf for it, but at $25 I couldn't pass it up.

I believe the markdowns occurred yesterday, likewise with a 36 Inch Dewalt chest as well ($114 base, $37 topper)

Edit* - It should be noted that if you are going to keep and use this... The first thing you will likely want to do is unscrew the bracket holding in the Power strip, flip it around so the switch is towards the front of the box, and screw it back in. It seems awkward to reach back to hit the switch. (You will loose about 1 ft of cord out the back) but most people line these up on a wall anyway)

I don't get why people would fame these posts. If they can find the deal, get it and repped. If not, just pass it. It doesn't always work.

Minneapolis area, 5-6 stores show it in stock around here.

It always seems people get butt-hurt when they cant find deals. I was shocked when I saw the price and would have bought all three had the other guy not. I got offered $75 as I was loading it up, but wanted to keep for personal use.

That being said, has anyone ever built a stand/shelf for just using the topper?

Which store specifically did you purchase it at?

Thanks!

What's the best way to check for this? I assume call them up and give them the SKU?
Only if you want the person answering the phone to buy it before you get there.

I don't have a huge amount of experience with Home Depot clearance. Is typically national? If I have stock near me, is it likely to be that price?

Man, I just got two @ $50 each, which is a heckuva deal, gonna have to hope to run across some bases. Also, gonna have to rent a truck and drive 140 miles round trip, but whatever, I'll take it!

Regional. From what I gather, it starts in the west, and ends near the east.

I believe they have different SKUs, stores typically sell a set, but from some holiday deals they had them priced individually (apparently a lot of people just use the base as a work station, thus the overstock of tops. One could reference the top SKU from the webpage and have them ring it up with just that SKU and see the price, but it would be a long shot.
