The 6.5' medium rod is overkill for bluegill. It would make a good catfishing or carp rod. The soft tip makes it a little harder to catch bass, though I've gotten some and other nice sized fish...

The rod is super durable. The reels are questionable, but should last a season.
For this price, this would be a great all purpose setup for a beginner.
