You can immediately use the phone on an AT&T postpaid plan (I tried it). I'm not sure what it takes from there to later get it unlocked for use on other carriers.

I even tried a couple of the unlocking services that I've used before... they were unable to get it unlocked, but refunded my money immediately.

Still works with a post-paid AT&T account. Although since the phone was never activated as a Go phone it was deactivated after about a day until I emailed my receipt as a proof of purchase
