I got the same response. Its not tmobile phone so they said they can't unlock it. Spoke to Apple guys and they say its locked to tmobile so talk to tmobile.

Do you have any luck to request an unlock from tmobile? Mine is also locked by tmobile, and could not get unlocked because tmobile said this is not a tmobile phone!

It worked! Popped in postpaid Att sim and went to Att unlock portal and submitted as with an account and waited two days and received an email. Then popped in tmobile sim and it works. Ting and tello...
