Merlin is based on ASUS firmware plus a bunch of features and bug fixes. In fact, ASUS has sometimes taken fixes/features introduced in Merlin and ported them back into ASUS firmware. So yeah......

It's not any more stable. But it's faster. It depends on whether you have found yourself bound by the speed limitations of the N66R. If you only use the 2.4Gbz N band, the N66R is somewhat better.
