Only ac3 and Dts will play over optical. Anything higher needs hdmi. You have Dts passing though to your receiver from your TV over optical? Thanks!

Funny enough I changed my Shield settings to 4:4:4 from RGB and Amazon stopped allowing 4k playback. weird. Changed back to RGB Full range and it works again.
