Woot "refurbished" is used and abused. RAM is not upgradable on these, if I remember correctly. And if so, you'll be stuck with 8gb, which isn't a lot even today

I wouldn't buy a new(ish) Mac that has a spinning hard drive. OS X has been a mediocre experience with hard drives since Lion (10.7), so plan for an external SSD as a boot drive if you're going to...

Define too slow. Are you accustomed to hard drives, and so this would be the same as every other system you've used, or are you used to SSD, in which case this would be torture.... I use an iMac...

Very well. I have a 2012 and just did a Genius Bar/phone support with no problems. Apple is very good about support and longevity.
