You need to register the kit as a whole to get the lifetime warranty. Batteries which are not part of a kit only get the standard three year warranty.

The answer is that Ridgid has a lifetime warranty on all things, milwaukee has 3 years. People generally believe milwaukee to be better quality tools but I'm not sold on the price for the difference...
