It's not too reassuring when they are hawking "Data Recovery Services" with their top-tier hard drives. Kind of makes you a bit queasy. I'm going with Western Digital this round.

I think that might be open to interpretation. Those 4TB drives are older and probably have been in service for years... I started using that model over 4 years ago.

The Pro version is also on sale and is $30 more. For that you get an extra 2 years of warranty (5 years) and free data recovery. Up to you if that is worth it. Never seen the pro on sale.

I know it's anecdotal, but I've gone through about 6 dozen Hard Drives in my life, and I've only ever had 2 crash on me - both Seagate. WDs never have.

You can put this on a PC, the "NAS" versions of drives usually just have extra rubber and resiliency to vibrations (needed when you have 10 drives shoved together in a rack roaring at 7200 RPM

Agree it’s not. But I’ll go on my experience with this. Owned 3 Seagates in my lifetime. All 3 failed within 4 months to 3 yrs. One was the infamous 7200.11 1.5Ttb where I lost my life on that drive....
