Yes. Since the streaming companies have built their empire (user base) they want to take advantage of it and are coming out with these versions of DVRs. SlingTV has its own version called Air TV....

Most charge a monthly fee for the DVR. This is a one time charge. I could see this being worth it if they included a cable card slot

I think it's worth noting that Amazon could have added DVR capability to their Fire devices...but chose not to. Why? Probably because of the incredible profit potential of a 500Gb recording device...

Amazon site says required equipment is a fire tv per tv and an antenna and give you the option to add those to the cart. So at $230 doesnt sound like its integrated. Amazon has gone INSANE!!!!

I thought TCL TV's roku OS allows you to pause live TV - if it indeed gives you program guide and allows you to schedule recordings, it is a big selling point for these. I will go out and buy a TCL...

They don't. On TCL's website it still pushes utilizing an OTA DVR and heavily pushes Tablo. They wouldn't be doing this if the functionality was built into the OS.
