I do not agree. My Z87 Extreme 4 from 2013 received a BIOS update in May 2018. Seem pretty reasonable to me.

I had x370 taichi. BIOS is terrible. A lot of bugs in new bios. X470 may be better but I've sold my x370 and switched to Asus c7h.

My gripe for AMD ryzen CPUs for servers is lack of onboard GPU even a crappy one. You still need to get a crappy one and that takes up slots if you need it for peripherals.
