Yeah exactly. I used to have to push down certain veggies each day, which just allowed more oxygen into my jars, which you want to avoid. Weights let you not have to deal with checking/pushing things...

op's solid disks are heavier... 6.0oz versus 4.6oz and besides, the whole reason you go with wide mouth is to make it easier to fish stuff out of the jar.

Some rocks are pourous or has cracks that'll may harbor bacteria. You wouldn't want to risk introducing an unknown bacteria into your ferment.
