Sounds like a substantial upgrade. I would just build a new computer and sell, gift, or repurpose the current computer. I would probably get a bigger SSD or M.2 drive.

FWIW, I had the Gigabyte B350 for my 1700X and could only get my 3200 ram to 2600. I gave that set up away and got the MSI pro carbon B450 for my 2700X and now I have now issue over clocking anything.

With 1080 your CPU may be the bottle neck with some games. CPUs are rarely the bottleneck but in this case it may be as i7 is not any better than non hyperthreading i5's in gaming.
