I rather get a solid machine on it and do the SSD upgrade myself. SSD is cheap and will be cheaper later. Also 256GB is too small to do anything. 500GB+ will be the ideal SSD size.

I think you did not read my post properly. i7-8750H makes a lot of sense, irrespective of the GPU, if user is planning to run a lot of CPU intensive tasks.

For budget computer, they all didn't have SSD or a 256G SSD, you just need to add the cost of SSD and replace it yourself, cost of SSD drop quite a lot lately.
