not a good option, you are better off buying a very nice TV. unless he has a PC connected to this monitor with a high end nvidia video card, there's no reason to get this monitor.

that is a good idea, in that case a 1440p TN panel like the dell and a 4k 60hz side by side might be an option, more real estate then the 34" ultrawide

My research has told me that GPUs that can drive 4K at any decent framerate are still a few years off so if you are looking for say >100FPS/hz refresh rate, you should just get in on 1440p for now...
