The "special" editions? Those don't actually have extra footage after the first two films, which is pretty disappointing since it was the fourth film that really needed some extra dialogue.

Compression will not reduce resolution. It degrades other aspects of the PQ. That said, yes I would take a 1080p Blu-ray over compressed 4K digital stream.
