Third gen dots sound night and day better, I replaced both of my gen 2 dots once I heard the third gen. You can get a third gen with an amazon smart plug for the same price.

You sure it was the tp-link and not their plug? I was going to try it but if it wasn't this one I'm ok spending $5 more all my stuff is currently tp-link. Nice to keep it all the same and maintain...

To be fair, most people get dot as a smart hub/controller rather than speaker. I connect my dot to a Logitech 2.0 system to compensate for its poor speaker performance

Assuming it turns on automatically when power is applied it will work and you wouldn't use both in 99% of cases. I would think most kettles wouldn't turn on when you first plug them in but light...
