Gerber is not a "knock-off" brand. The brand is older than Leatherman (Gerber founded 1939). Personally, Leatherman is my standard, but as this tool is made in Oregon, it's a worthy competitor.

Good product but overpriced, or inflation has gotten out of control. Maybe a good price point for all those people on Slickdeals who say paying $500 for a pair of ear buds is reasonable and adorable.

Quality of the steel and quality of the machining. Makes a big difference in how long the tool will last and how hard you can work it before failure.

I wouldn't necessarily call this a knock-off brand per se, as they've built somewhat of a reputation as an alternative to Leatherman. These are built in the USA and they have a lifetime warranty.
