Because it's a potential flaw in the latest batch of these drives? Wouldn't want a notably hotter running NVME drive to have a broken temp sensor when things go awry.

Umm no you are wrong. Those are usually secondary chips on motherboards no one cares about and don't go above 40c anyway. An nvme ssd with sensitive user data and the OS itself that can get very hot...
