For those wondering about gen 1 or 2. Alexa works with one, you just cant speak to the speaker but Alexa will control the speaker. Love my sonos speakers but honestly I have two riva wifi speakers...

I'm not familiar with sonos. But onyx has a great bass and sounds good. Plus it has Bluetooth and a battery so it's portable. I'd go with the onyx just for the portability alone

Gen 2 has an updated processor, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and increased memory.
I’m in the same boat. For $50 more to get the Gen 2 in the situation you described doesn’t make sense to me.
