I practically guarantee it! I've never seen an external hard drive that didn't contain an 'internal' drive inside. SATA is the standard these days. There's a 2.5 inch SATA drive inside....I promise.

Actually that's not what the questions get at. WD solders the USB board to the drive so you can't "harvest" the drive. Not sure if they have stopped this practice but they've done it past 10 years.

Refurb'ed hard drives...for those that do not value their data lol. Seriously, 1, 2TB drives are cheap anyway these days. Why would anyone want to deal with this to save 20/30 dollars (if that)?

It is real research! I own multiple WD Element drives along with misc other brands. They DO have a USB interface BUT that interface is nothing more than a dongle plugged into the SATA ports!

You can't. Its economically unfeasible to refurbish. They're simply used. Worse, if they wiped the SMART data including the bad sector table to make it look "refurbished", you'd best run a pattern...
