Yep. Just hold the piece for the first tap. This is extremely sharp for a wood splitting device. Also, no one really mentions it but the wood “pops” apart. Even oak which is stringy. Kind of amazing....

Get the XL. That’s what I have. It will split the small stuff that the smaller one will, but also takes bigger wood, and I imagine it’s a little beefier also.

Hmmm... The safety ring diameter on the standard is 170mm and XL is 220mm... You can use that to ballpark if the smaller one is big enough...
