My experience - they either don't check the "real" inventory when you ask them or they don't have that information for clearance items. Think of it that they would enter the number you're giving them...

The didn't have any in the garage door section in the local HD here. They were a few aisles down on an endcap (and still marked as $228 with a clearance sticker, but ringing up at the lower price).
