Lots of people do that and the main reasons people don't is probably space and cost. I guess if you had a tower with a bunch of drivers it may not be as suitable for a possibly close up surround...

I would not bother replacing the Pioneer towers with these. Ideally you would have all the speakers (other than subwoofer) matching from the same line but it's certainly not crucial.

Well depends on your layout but your seating may block most of the sound on side, especially the rear. If your one that just wants sound coming from those areas then sure it should work.

I have thr AJ floor speakers and then a klipsch center channel and while the AJs are very good you can tell the klipsch is higher quality. With that said, i wouldnt spend the money to replace working...
