Still my kids cheap HP laptop from few years ago i5-7200u scored 23k in Octane. My desktop scored 40k+. I'd say this chromebook is still too slow with around 13k octane score.

Chromebooks are not resource hogs like Windows machines. That's why they're so fast with lower spec processors. Any Chromer with an Octane score over 10,000 is pretty snappy and will stay that way...

I just brought an Acer C740 with celeron 3205u broadwell cpu which is just as fast but more power efficient refurbed in ebay for $55. Not crazy about the large 15.6 screen either.
