That is what I originally thought, too. BUT it's not even good when it's 12 inches from you POINTING directly at you. Now, you are going to use these on COLD days ... and this unit will not keep...

I gotcha, but heat rises. Id only use it under a desk or something so that the heat rises, hits the desk and then hits me. I wouldn't use it on top of one

I have a desk that almost fully boxs in my legs, and with this heater under it I felt almost no warmer. I ended up buying an infrared 250/500w heater that does a WAY better job @250 watts.
