If you do end up giving any of the games a shot, I recommend Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed! It's the best IMO. I own it on my Vita and also Xbox 360/One thanks to Games with Gold.

Crash Team Racing is the only Kart racer close to being as good as Mario Kart. As a matter of fact, Crash Team Racing is more challenging in single player mode than Mario Kart is.
