I picked up one of the 8700/2080 versions. Heat issues easily solved with Afterburner. Pretty decent system, imho.

I'd say go with AMD. Being that you're frigual you want to get as much life out of your PC as possible. The 9700 has 8 cores but not hyperthreading, hyperthreading will help extend your computers...
