Because many people prefer to watch their videos on Amazon Prime, Apple TV or Google Play or wherever and this move by Vudu would let them watch the movie in UHD only on Vudu. If you watched it...

Interesting, but looks like it will prevent you from buying a UHD MA copy on Vudu since you would already own it on Vudu in UHD

This is why I refuse to buy a UHD if I own a copy in HD or HDX. At some point I figure the studios will upgrade them for free.

I've been saying this should be the norm for a long time. If I buy a movie once and they upgrade it for free (or even like a $2 fee) each generation, that would keep me away from piracy.

I'm guessing their doing this as rolling upgrade and people will see this upgrade at different times as their database is updated. I haven't even received the email yet. Thanks for the information.
