You must have just been unlucky and gotten a dud. I have two of them and they have been working with no issues for the past year and a half. I also use high endurance microSD cards.

Mine died in about 3 weeks from the heat here in Texas and it wasn't even that hot yet. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra cash for a decent high heat one.
