You will miss a good bunch, but you can watch the recap story from the main menu I believe. I would recommend playing yakuza kiwami and yakuza kiwami 2 before starting the remastered to follow along...

I would say it's actually less RPG than Sleeping Dogs, and more action. (Depending on how far down the rabbit hole you go with the side quests and mini-games.)
