No, these work fine as external for Plex or anything else. We shuck them simply because less cords and much higher I/O using it’s native sata3 connection. Plex works with any addressable storage.

I think for the shuccc drive, the magic number you are looking for is $14/TB. During BF and Chrismas last year, you may be able to see $12.5/TB.
