It's a whole YMMV. After Western Digital came out they use SMR drives. I wouldn't buy any drive to shuck anymore. You really don't know how long they've been trying them.

No problem. I was rather surprised it worked for me originally. It does take WD a few days to ship though. I ordered Friday and they didn't ship until Tuesday.

Price went up somehow. I was able to get internal employee discount, I paid $129+tax for all my 10TB Red Pro. Just yesterday, I noticed that the exact 10TB red pro price went up to $279.

You can also simply power it by Molex (4 pin) with a Molex to Sata cable. I'd do that before cutting a wire.
