So what IS the best gaming router for a family of 8? I've already tried Asus and TP Link AX11000. I literally have to spend $500 for something somewhat consistent? I guess just stay away from...

I got this amazon used for $100 1.5 years ago. No joke. I got lucky. Runs perfect. Ebay sells it for $150 for a used one.

I would try a hardware vendor not using Broadcom chips. You might have better luck with the 12 stream dual band Qualcomm stuff. RAX120 from Netgear and AX89X from ASUS. I have no experience with...

Decent hardware. BCM4098 1.8ghz 64 bit quad + 3x BCM4366E 4x4 AC/N. Do think price is a tad high unless you absolutely need a tri-band router (aka large families). Theres better options for...

MX5300 doesn't have to be used as mesh. It can be used as standalone router. Still covers 3000 sqft area same as max stream. But makes it future proof with AX support.

Overpriced, and crippled by gigabit ethernet ports. But at least there's OpenWRT support https://forum.openwrt.org/t/build-for-linksys-ea9500/1817

That's a mesh system. So it depends on what you Need. The one you referenced has good reviews and very few 1 star reviews. It also has tri band. Costco also has a better return policy.

You can try a R7800 or XR 450 / XR500 (all same PCB/Radio) on sale but its an older design (2016) and might actually get congested with the amount of bandwidth you're trying to push at a given time. ...

Even after the 15% off, Costco still has the Wifi6 and Wifi 5 Linksys Mesh Routers for about the same price or less per node.

This posts main focus is for people who need the capacity and speed for many devices. This isn't slick but considering how much of a pain the other routers have been, at least it saves $50.
