Where are you? The stuff here in So Cal is nice and warm and doesn’t have any of those negative characteristics you described. Maybe it’s due to poor storage wherever you are or no?

In my experience this is my favorite mulch. It's much better than Scott's. I do believe that mulch quality varies by area.

First 40 bags looks great, came back for 30 more but this pallet was wet and have some mildew in it. But overall it's much better than the Scott's NatureScape. I like the finer shredded mulch.

You can put down layers of newspapers or cardboard then put the mulch over top.That will stop the weeds.
