According to that announcement there will also be more SKIL products at Lowe's. SKIL is now one of Chervon's brands, alongside EGO. Sounds like this could be part of a bigger deal negotiation.

Just speculating here but there's a decent chance that EGO negotiated a better deal from Lowe's and HD announced that they were dropping them to get ahead of the story.

I think battery being high profit margin is their business model. In any case HD price protection plan for lawn mowers reimburses 50% on extra batteries.
