I don't think either is better than the other, I just prefer the longer warranty on SG's. I've had equal numbers of WD and SG drives fail over the years, at the end of the day I'll take either but...

I run both brands in identical NAS's, never noticed a sound or speed difference. If they weren't labeled I'd never be able to tell which is which.
