I was a big fan of Hanes socks but the quality has gone downhill. The socks seem so thin now so I switched to champion (which is owned by Hanes) and the socks are better quality.

I think when you buy a pair of socks for a buck you can afford to replace it in 6 month. Cotton does not 'suffocate' your feet. Any closing made from cotton will not 'suffocate' you.
