If you need to copy sensitive info you could boot off a USB drive and use it to perform the copy, then securely format it afterward if you don't plan on having to copy again.

Thanks for your input. I've been trying to research this and it seems that if the data were to be written to a cache, it would be to RAM rather that the internal disk since RAM would be much quicker....

I am not aware of operating systems using the term cache for their data but applications such as browsers do. Operating systems would use the term buffer for data being transferred in that manner....
